CANDIED BBQ YAMS

Servings: 4-6 People / Prep time: 10 minutes  / Cook times: Oven: 50-55 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 large sweet potatoes or yams, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup Smokin Buttz Buttz Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Smokin Buttz Smoky Buttz Rub
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup orange juice, apple juice, or water
  • Optional: mini marshmallows, chopped pecans, or extra sauce drizzle

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Arrange sliced yams in the dish in slightly overlapping layers.
  3. In a bowl, mix brown sugar, melted butter, Buttz Sauce, Smoky Buttz Rub, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, vanilla, and orange juice.
  4. Pour the mixture evenly over the yams. Use a spoon or brush to coat the tops.
  5. Cover tightly with foil and bake 35 to 40 minutes, until the yams begin to soften.
  6. Remove foil. Gently spoon sauce from the bottom of the dish over the yams.
  7. Bake uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes, basting once or twice, until the sauce is syrupy and the edges are caramelized.
  8. For marshmallows, add them during the last 5 to 7 minutes. For pecans, sprinkle them on during the last 10 minutes.
  9. Let rest 10 minutes before serving so the glaze thickens.

Sauce Boss Tips:

  •  Buttz Sauce adds a BBQ twist without taking away from the soul food comfort of candied yams.
  • Smoky Buttz Rub gives a light smoky note, so start with 1 teaspoon and add more only if you want a bolder BBQ flavor.
  • For tasting cups, dice the yams before baking so guests can sample with a spoon.
