Smokin’ BBQ Chicken Pizza

Servings: 4 / Prep & Cook Time: 1 hour

Calling all pizza fanatics and BBQ lovers! We’re bringing you a BBQ Chicken Pizza, featuring our signature Big Jr’s Buttz sauce. This flavor explosion will make your taste buds dance.

And the best part – it’s completely customizable! Use leftover chicken (rotisserie, grilled, or check out our recipe for our Smokin’ Dry Rubbed Chicken), and any one of our Smokin’ Buttz sauces!

Ingredients:

  • 18-20 oz store bought pizza crust or if you are feeling ambitious, make your own!

  • 2 cups of cooked shredded or chopped chicken

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or fresh mozzarella if you’re feeling fancy) 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 3-4 slices of thick cut bacon, chopped (optional)

  • ½ cup Big Jr’s Buttz Sauce

  • ½ yellow or red onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • Pinch of salt

  • ⅓ cup flour* (if making your own)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Set your pizza dough to the side to come to room temperature.
  2. Caramelize the onions. Add onion slices and butter to a saucepan over low heat. Cook until the onions are tender and golden brown, about 20-30 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside** Note: No time to caramelize? Sautee them for 10-15 minutes. Still delicious!
  3. If you are using a premade crust, place it on a pizza pan and continue to step 4.
    a. If you are using handmade dough, sprinkle some flour onto your surface and roll the dough out to about a 12-inch crust. Sprinkle with a little salt. *Flour is the key to non-sticky dough! Place on pizza pan.
  4. Spread Big Jr’s Buttz sauce all over the dough, making sure to leave a little border around the edge.
  5. Add chicken, onions, bacon, mozzarella and cheddar cheese – in that order. For a little extra razzle dazzle, add a sprinkle of Big Jr’s Smoky Buttz Rub.
  6. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. You know it’s done when the cheese is melty and bubbly. Remove from the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes.

Note: Oven temperatures vary. Keep a close eye on your pizza!

This BBQ Chicken Pizza is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. It’s perfect for a game day party, a family gathering, or if you’re just craving something different. Bonus: If you prefer pulled pork, you can substitute it and make a Smokin’ BBQ Pork Pizza!
