Looking for the best BBQ in Nashville and Middle Tennessee? Discover Smokin’ Buttz BBQ food truck, home of the famous Gut Buster sandwich, ultimate BBQ catering, and Big Jr’s signature sauces & rubs.
If you’re wandering the streets of Nashville or cruising through Middle Tennessee and suddenly catch the irresistible aroma of slow-smoked hickory and mesquite, you’re in luck. You’ve just found Smokin’ Buttz BBQ.
Since 2014, our husband-and-wife team, John and Mylica Cathey, have been on a mission to bring high-quality, mouth-watering BBQ to our community at a price that treats families right. Whether you’re hunting down our food truck for a quick, unforgettable lunch or looking for top-tier BBQ catering in Nashville, here is why Smokin’ Buttz has become a Music City staple.
The Story Behind the Smoke
Pitmaster John Cathey didn’t just stumble into the BBQ world. His passion for cooking started as a child, learning the ropes while working in his family’s soul food restaurant. After years of perfecting his craft and smoking meats on the weekends, John took a massive leap of faith in 2016—leaving a full-time IT job to run Smokin’ Buttz full-time.
What started as a pop-up tent at local festivals quickly grew into the iconic food truck we roll in today. Our philosophy is simple, and it’s painted right on our truck: “BBQ so good, pigs are dying to get smoked!”
Must-Try Menu Items at the Buttz Truck
We don’t do fast food; we do good food, smoked slow. When you track down the truck, these are the signature items you absolutely need to try:
-
The Hickory: Our classic pulled pork sandwich. The pork is smoked over hickory wood for hours upon hours, piled high on a fresh-baked bun, and topped with our signature BBQ sauce and pickles.
-
The Mesquite: For the chicken lovers! This pulled chicken sandwich is smoked over mesquite wood for a deep, earthy flavor that pairs perfectly with our sides.
-
The Gut Buster: Officially recognized as a Music City Must by News Channel 5. We take our pulled pork or chicken, put it on a fresh bun, and completely load it up with nacho cheese, jalapeños, and BBQ sauce. It’s messy, it’s bold, and it’s incredible.
-
Overloaded Nachos: A massive bed of tortilla chips piled high with your choice of meat, creamy nacho cheese, fresh pico de gallo, jalapeños, sour cream, and a heavy drizzle of BBQ sauce.
